The Brother Intellifax 2920 is more than a fax machine. It is also a copier and a laser printer. PC faxing can be networked in, but for sending only. The Brother Intellifax 2920 can operate in any of 4 modes; Fax Only, Fax/Tel, External Telephone Answering Device (TAD) and Manual Receive.

Fax/Tel. Fax/Tel mode sets the unit as the default answering unit for all calls. The Brother Intellifax 2920 toner identifies each call as voice or fax, then accepts faxes or forwards voice to a whatever extension has been assigned. The Fax/Tel mode intended for deployment on phone lines that primarily receive fax calls. Not using it on a primary voice call line id discouraged because answering machines cannot be part of the mix.

The External TAD mode (Telephone Answering Device) enables the Brother Intellifax 2920 to work exclusively with an external answering machine. Voice calls made to the unit phone line are automatically dumped to a dedicated voice mail system. Fax calls are, of course, received and handled by the 2920. In External TAD mode, voice calls cannot be forwarded anywhere but to the dedicated voice mail line.

In Fax/Tel mode the 2920 is the receiver of all incoming calls. Voice calls are routed to whatever extension has been assigned, fax calls are handled by the unit. No answering machines are permitted in this mode. This ban includes answering machines plugged into unrelated wall jacks, as well as and office voice mail system.

The Fax Only mode is self-explanatory and is intended for dedicated fax lines only.

As a copier, the Brother Intellifax 2920 Printer features 15 pages per minute copying speed, 200 x 300 dpi resolution, up to 64 gray-scale half tones, enlargement – reduction variations from 200% down to 50% and up to 99 copy capacity.

The document and media handling range of the 2920 is from legal size down to 3.9 x 5.8 inches. Document feed capacity is 20 sheets and supports plain paper. Output trays hold up to 100 sheets, the input tray has a maximum capacity of 250 8.5 x 14 sheets with weight from 60 g/m2 to 161 g/m2.
